The National Planning Improvement Framework (NPIF) is piloting a new collaborative peer review process and has published facilitation guidance to support this.

Ten planning authorities (cohort 1) are currently testing the NPIF, which is a new approach to measuring the performance of planning authorities and replaces the Planning Performance Framework.

The NPIF has been developed by the National Planning Improvement Champion in collaboration with stakeholders from across the planning sector following a ‘call for ideas’ in October 2023.

The framework will be tested incrementally throughout 2024-25 with all planning authorities expected to take part in one of three cohorts.

The new guidance is aimed at facilitators of the collaborative peer review workshops that make up part of the framework. It is also of use to the peer reviewers taking part in the workshops.
