Simple terms explainer

Councils must offer people Self-directed Support (SDS) options if they are eligible for social care. This means that instead of the council simply arranging care for someone, individuals are given a choice in how their support is provided. There are four main options: they can take a direct payment to arrange their own support, choose a service arranged by the council, ask the council to arrange a service from another provider, or mix these approaches.
