Simple terms explainer
Councils must provide support without a full assessment in urgent cases. This means that if someone has an immediate need for care or support that cannot safely wait, the council must take action straight away to meet that need, even if a full assessment hasn’t yet been completed. The aim is to protect the person’s health, safety, and wellbeing, and to ensure urgent support is not delayed while formal procedures are carried out.
