Simple terms explainer

Once building work has finished, the owner must submit a completion certificate declaring that the work complies with the approved building warrant and building regulations. The council must assess this submission and decide whether to accept or reject it. Acceptance confirms that the council is satisfied the work complies; rejection means further work or information is required. In most cases, buildings cannot be legally occupied or used until the completion certificate has been accepted.
