Simple terms explainer
Some building regulations apply not just at the time of construction but for the lifetime of a building. These are known as continuing requirements and can include matters such as maintaining fire safety measures or building systems. Where a building does not comply with these requirements, the council can require the owner to take action to restore compliance. This helps ensure buildings remain safe and fit for use over time.
