Simple terms explainer

Where a building has defects that could affect safety or wellbeing but does not present an immediate danger, councils can investigate the condition of the building. If necessary, it can formally require the owner to carry out repairs within a specified timescale. This allows issues to be addressed in a planned and proportionate way, helping prevent deterioration and reducing the risk of future danger.
