Simple terms explainer

When councils incur costs as a result of enforcement action or safety works that a building owner has failed to carry out, they can recover those costs. Where a building has multiple owners, the council can divide the costs between them in a fair and proportionate way. This ensures public funds are protected and reinforces owner responsibility.
