Simple terms explainer

Councils must make sure that anyone working in roles with children or vulnerable adults has the right background checks in place. This means checking that staff and volunteers are members of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and sharing information with Disclosure Scotland when needed. Councils also have a responsibility to refer individuals who may pose a risk and to follow official guidance to keep people safe.
