Simple terms explainer
When a court is deciding what’s best for a child, it can ask the council to provide information or reports to help with that decision. The council must look into the child’s situation and share what it finds—like whether the child needs protection or support—so the court has the evidence it needs to make the right choice. The court may require the person who furnished the report to appear and be examined on oath regarding any matter dealt with in the report.
