Simple terms explainer

Councils must prepare, publish, and regularly review a plan that sets out how they will fulfil their responsibilities as corporate parents to children and young people in their care. This plan should explain how they will work with other corporate parents to support wellbeing, ensure equal opportunities, and improve outcomes. As part of this responsibility, councils must stay alert to any issues that could affect the wellbeing of these children and young people, assess their needs for services and support, and actively promote their interests. They must also seek to provide opportunities for participation in activities that promote wellbeing, and take action to ensure access to those opportunities, services, and support.
