Simple terms explainer:

Local authorities must promote personal hygiene among pupils and may authorise a medical officer to carry out cleanliness checks when necessary. This can include examination of the pupil and their clothing. Such checks must always be conducted with sensitivity and respect. In particular, if a girl is being examined, the assessment must be carried out by a female or a qualified male doctor to ensure appropriate care and safeguarding.
