Simple terms explainer:
Councils must make sure that pupils in their schools have access to suitable facilities for social, cultural and recreational activities, as well as for physical education and training. This means providing or securing places, equipment and opportunities that support pupils’ wider development beyond classroom learning. The aim of the duty is to ensure children and young people can take part in a broad range of activities that contribute to their wellbeing, confidence and physical health.
