Simple terms explainer: 

Councils are required to give advice and information reasonably requested by a Parent Council for a school in its area. They must take appropriate steps to ensure that head teachers and staff at the schools are available to give advice and information to a Parent Council. They must determine an allocation of money within the budget to allow a Parent Council to meet its administration expenses, training expenses etc. Councils must publish an annual strategy for parental involvement, and an annual report on the activities undertaken in pursuance of the general policies set out in the strategy for parental involvement. In preparing the strategy for parental involvement, councils must have regard to how that strategy will promote equal opportunities and the complaints procedure must also be set out in the document.
