Simple terms explainer

If someone applies to the council for help because they are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, the council must offer them a safe place to stay while their application is being looked into. This is called interim accommodation. It’s temporary housing provided to make sure the person isn’t left without shelter while the council decides what help they can offer. If the person asks for a review of the council’s decision, they can usually stay in this accommodation until the review is complete. The council must follow rules to make sure the accommodation is suitable and safe for the person’s needs.
