Simple terms explainer
Before starting work on a new Local Development Plan, councils must prepare an Evidence Report. This report gathers important facts and figures about the area - like housing needs, population, infrastructure, and environmental issues. It helps make sure that planning decisions are based on accurate, up-to-date information. The report is then checked by the Scottish Government in a process called the Gate Check, to confirm it’s complete and reliable before the council moves on to the next stage of the plan.
