Simple terms explainer

Councils must ensure that biocidal products sold to consumers are safe and comply with legal requirements. Biocidal products include items designed to control harmful organisms, such as disinfectants, sanitisers, rodent poisons, insecticides and wood preservatives. Councils check that these products are properly authorised, correctly labelled, supported by the required technical documentation, and supplied with appropriate safety information. Councils can inspect products, investigate complaints, remove non-compliant products from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
