Simple terms explainer
Councils must ensure that construction products placed on the market comply with legal safety and performance requirements. Construction products include items such as insulation materials, doors, windows, roofing products, structural materials and fire protection products used in buildings and infrastructure. Councils can check that products carry the required conformity markings, are supported by appropriate technical documentation, and meet the performance and safety standards claimed by the manufacturer. Councils may investigate complaints, inspect products, remove non-compliant products from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
