Simple terms explainer
Councils have a responsibility to ensure that consumer products placed on the market are safe and comply with legal requirements. This includes inspecting products, investigating complaints, carrying out sampling and testing activities, and taking enforcement action where unsafe or defective goods are identified. Councils can require products to be withdrawn from sale, issue warnings, and work with national regulators to address risks.
