Simple terms explainer

Councils must ensure that electrical equipment sold to consumers is safe and complies with legal requirements. This includes checking that products such as household appliances, chargers, power supplies, lighting products and other electrical goods meet essential safety standards, carry the required markings and safety information, and are supported by the appropriate technical documentation. Councils can inspect products, investigate complaints, remove unsafe or non-compliant products from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
