Simple terms explainer
Councils must ensure that electrical and electronic products comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. This means checking that products do not generate excessive electromagnetic interference and can continue to operate safely and effectively when exposed to expected levels of electromagnetic disturbance. Products must be supported by the required technical documentation, carry the appropriate conformity markings, and meet the applicable legal requirements before being supplied on the market. Councils can inspect products, investigate complaints, remove non-compliant products from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
