Simple terms explainer

Councils must ensure that gas appliances sold to consumers comply with legal safety requirements. This includes checking that products such as gas cookers, heaters, boilers, fires and other gas-burning appliances meet essential safety standards, carry the required conformity markings, and are supported by appropriate technical documentation and safety information. Councils can inspect products, investigate complaints, remove unsafe or non-compliant appliances from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
