Simple terms explainer

Local authorities must enforce legislation requiring estate agents and others marketing residential property for sale to provide a Home Report in the prescribed format. The Home Report must be available before a property is marketed, with marketing defined broadly to include a range of promotional activities. Where a consumer requests a Home Report, this must be provided within nine days of the request. Trading Standards Officers are responsible for monitoring compliance and taking enforcement action where requirements are not met.
