Simple terms explainer

Councils must ensure that products which are not food are not manufactured, marketed or supplied in a way that could be mistaken for food. This includes checking products that resemble sweets, drinks, desserts or other edible items where there is a risk that consumers, particularly children, may accidentally eat, suck or swallow them. Councils can inspect products, investigate complaints, remove prohibited products from sale, and take enforcement action where necessary.
