Simple terms explainer

Local authorities must ensure that the required statutory notices are displayed in all premises that sell tobacco or nicotine vapour products. This includes checking that signage is present, meets the requirements set out in legislation, and is displayed in a prominent location within the premises. Trading Standards Officers have powers to issue fixed penalty notices where compliant signage is not in place and, where there are related or repeat offences, may apply to the Sheriff Court for a banning order restricting the sale of tobacco and/or nicotine vapour products from the business premises.
