Guidance for Licensing Trade

Guidance was developed for the licensing trade to support them to increase their level of compliance with the Licensing (Scotland) Act and to provide them with self-help material which would allow them to better manage their business.

Key Activities

  • Engagement with the licensed trade to identify what support they required and how this could be delivered
  • Development of on-line guidance and information Pack
  • Monthly newsletters and general email account for guidance

Impact and Benefits

  • Compliance levels increased form 24% to 68% after year 1
  • A consistent message could be provided to all licensees
  • Resources for Licensing Standards Officers could be more effectively used as general guidance was available on-line, together with standard statutory notices which licensees could display etc.
  • On-line electronic Newsletters includes questions from licensees so everyone can benefit from the same information.
  • The project won gold at the Councils Excellence awards for the category “listening and responding to customer needs”

Learning

Business can better manage their business and comply with legislation if they are provided with clear, consistent information, in a manner which they can understand and is accessible to them.
