Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s social media activities programme

Thousands of people worldwide have been tuning in to a range of social media activities provided by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

In early April 2020, the council announced a programme of events which would appear on the various corporate social media channels, with the goal of providing some engaging weekly content for family settings during the COVID-19 crisis.

The programme, which has been designed in collaboration with partner agencies, is an opportunity for engagement for everyone in the family setting, from nursery children to adults.

There are different activities on from Monday to Friday, including Live COVID-19 Cèilidh Sessions, yoga classes, quiz, and a cookery programme. The full timetable and details about the activities are published on the council’s website.

Now the programme has reached over 100,000 views and the activities have attracted participation from viewers across the world.

Willie Campbell, who performed on Friday 15 May, said:

“The ceilidhs have become a social gathering online. People interact and chat with each other while the gig’s happening and chat to the performers too. They're most certainly pulling people together during a difficult time. It has been a pleasure to contribute.”

One viewer who tuned in to watch Norrie ‘Tago’ Maciver said:

“Thank you for this wonderful evening, enjoying your music from Australia. Looking forward to the next one!'

The Comhairle would like to thank all the individuals who have contributed towards the Activities Programme so far and appreciates their efforts to keep people entertained during these difficult times.
