To step change the Council’s approach to commercialisation and deliver tangible savings and increased income through education, support and innovation.
Key Activities
Key activities are Advertising & Sponsorship management of the Council’s varied assets, review charging policy and support officers in decision making and production of a council-wide charging data-base, and supporting renewables team in maximising Council revenue through injecting pace around its bio-mass, wind, water, solar and gas projects. Over-arching all of this is the supporting of officers in on the efficient generation of income.
Benefits and Impact
One point of contact and focus for advertising will treble income for the Council through effective management of our partner agency and identification of new assets. The charging database will allow governance around annual increase implementation and benchmarking against other SLA’s. The commercial focus on renewables will allow the Council to generate new income that we have supported the private sector in doing in the past. Supporting officers in thinking commercially in their service has generated new ideas for income (e.g. Salary Sacrifice scheme forecast to generate £200k 2016/7) whilst implementing a charging policy that allows governance, guidelines and the generation of income.
Learning
Senior management and Executive team support invaluable, Councillors’ support is critical. The culture of being comfortable charging a fair rate for fees and services is something that takes time and a considerable amount of coaching.
