Programme for Government 2026-2031 notes "We cannot eradicate violence against women and girls without addressing women’s inequality, so our work to tackle poverty and the cost-of-living crisis, to increase economic opportunities, and to advance public service reform are all critical to tackling violence against women and girls."

To help support this ambition, we are pleased to invite you to the launch of the new National Equally Safe Guidance on the 4th of November, to support a public health approach to preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG).
Developed by the Scottish Government, COSLA, Zero Tolerance, Public Health Scotland, the Improvement Service and the Scottish Women's Budget Group, the guidance aims to support practitioners and policymakers to adopt a preventative approach to tackling VAWG through prioritising actions that the evidence-base suggests are most likely to tackle its root cause - gender inequality.
Event Details

The launch will take place on the 4th of November, from 1pm-3pm on Microsoft Teams and will bring together local and national partners working across a wide range of policy and service areas that have a role to play in tackling gender inequality. It will highlight:

  • Why it is important to adopt a preventative approach to tackling VAWG and the benefits of adopting a gendered approach to tackling inequality across different policy agendas;
  • Examples of good practice taking place across Scotland that support a primary prevention approach; and
  • Support available to partners who would like to be part of an action learning programme to generate learning on what adopting a gendered approach to different policy priorities would look like in practice.

Who is this event for?
This event is for local and national third sector and public sector partners working to improve outcomes for women and girls across Scotland. Specifically, it will be of interest to professionals working across policy agendas that have a role to play in tackling violence against women and girls and promoting gender equality including, but not limited to, professionals working within Child Poverty, Housing, Economic Outcomes, Place-Based Planning, Public Protection and Public Service Reform.
