The Shaping Places for Wellbeing Programme ran from 2021–2024 and delivered local project action that supported organisations to take a place-based approach to increasing wellbeing and reducing inequalities. Based on learning from Local Project Action, the Shaping Places for Wellbeing approach was developed and combines three key elements: People, Place, and Decisions. This approach continues to support anyone looking to take a place-based approach in Scotland.
A suite of Workstreams Summary Reports have now been published, with a report for each of the areas of the Programme journey that were evaluated to enable national replication. The workstreams focused on are:
- Recommendation embedment
- Data profiles review
- Mechanisms of change
- Project Town structures and support mechanisms
- Third sector
The new Community Insight Resource Pack complements a previous how-to guide on capturing and analysing local qualitative data and community insight. The resource pack brings together practical tools and considerations to support partners in embedding community insight more effectively in their work. It is intended to ensure that the voices of communities are central in planning and decision-making.
Five Masterclasses have also been delivered, with each Masterclass focused on a different theme, from introducing place-based approaches and the Place and Wellbeing Outcomes, to using qualitative and quantitative data and place-based tools to inform decision-making.
The most recent session, Masterclass 5: Applying a Place-Based Approach, featured practical examples from Clyde Gateway and Aberdeenshire Council. The speakers offered insight into how place-based work can be implemented and scaled, particularly in relation to child poverty and strategic planning.
All Masterclass recordings are now available to watch.
