Getyournec.scot has hit a significant milestone with over 1.5 million online applications for National Entitlement Cards processed.
Developed by the Improvement Service and TCS, getyournec.scot allows people to apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC) online, without having to visit council offices. It has also removed the burden of processing applications from council staff, allowing them to deal with more complex applications and other enquiries in person.
Getyournec.scot uses mygovscot myaccount, the simple and secure sign-in service for online public services in Scotland, to provide secure authentication and identity verification. This ensures that applying online is as robust as making an in-person application.
Andy Campbell, Head of Digital Public Services at the Improvement Service, said:
“I’m delighted that getyournec.scot has reached this milestone of 1.5 million applications. The platform has had a huge impact on the provision of National Entitlement Cards to the public by making applying for a card simple and convenient, as well as reducing the workload for councils and their staff.
“The seamless integration with mygovscot myaccount means that citizens can be sure that their applications are secure, and councils and Transport Scotland can be confident in the authentication and verification process.”
Tony Jones, NEC Programme Manager, said:
“Reaching the milestone of 1.5 million applications processed though getyournec.scot is a fantastic achievement. The platform has been instrumental in the success of the Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel Scheme, but its impact goes much further. By providing an easy and accessible way to apply online, it has also supported older and disabled citizens to access their National Entitlement Card more quickly and consistently. This has reduced the burden on councils, freeing up staff to focus on providing support where it is most needed. It is a clear example of how digital innovation, delivered in partnership, can benefit citizens of all ages while easing pressure on local services.”
Bettina Sizeland, Director of Bus, Accessibility and Active Travel at Transport Scotland:
“Reaching 1.5 million applications is a significant achievement and reflects the crucial role getyournec.scot has in the continued success of the National Concessionary Travel Schemes in Scotland. This milestone highlights the scale of demand for concessionary travel and the importance of accessible digital services in supporting public policy delivery.”
Best known for providing access to Transport Scotland's national concessionary travel scheme for under 22s, over 60s disabled people as well as the Young Scot card, the NEC also offers access to a range of other services such as libraries and leisure. Over 2.7 million people in Scotland have a National Entitlement Card.
