The getyournec.scot platform has today hit another significant milestone: one million online applications for National Entitlement Cards processed.

The platform, which was developed by the Improvement Service and partners TCS during the pandemic, is designed to allow the public to apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC) from the comfort of their own home, without having to visit council offices. In addition, getyournec.scot has removed the burden of processing applications from council staff, allowing them to deal with more complex applications and other enquiries in person.

getyournec.scot uses the mygovscot myaccount platform, the easy way to access Scottish public services online, to provide secure authentication and identity verification, ensuring that the online system is as robust as in-person applications.

Andy Campbell, Head of Digital Public Services at the Improvement Service, said:

“The getyournec.scot platform has had a real impact on the provision of National Entitlement Cards to the public, as well as on reducing the workload for councils and their staff.

“Using our expertise in delivering digital public services we have now processed one million applications via our online platform, with the underlying authentication and identity verification services of the mygovscot myaccount platform ensuring that all applications can be securely and confidently assessed.

“Our thanks also have to go to our team of customer service agents at the Improvement Service, who have worked diligently since the launch of the platform to deal with applications and enquiries, especially since the increase in submissions with the launch of the Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel Scheme.”

Best known for providing access to Transport Scotland's national concessionary travel scheme for under 22s, over 60s and disabled people as well as the Young Scot card, the NEC also offers access to a range of other services such as libraries and leisure. Over 2.5 million people in Scotland currently possess a National Entitlement Card.
