We are launching a new series of Early Learning and Childcare Insights Dashboard (ELCID) Action Learning Sets – interactive, collaborative sessions designed to help local authority colleagues make the most of the dashboard.
These sessions are about practical use of data, shared learning across authorities, and shaping how ELCID continues to develop.
First session: Using quality data to support improvement

This session will explore how ELCID quality data – including Care Inspectorate gradings, inspection trends, and recent inspection outcomes – can support:
- Local self-evaluation
- Improvement planning
- Conversations with providers and partners
- Strategic decision-making
Participants will have the opportunity to explore their local data, share insights with colleagues across Scotland, and reflect on how quality information is used in practice.

Updated data now available
The dashboard has recently been updated with the latest Care Inspectorate data, meaning quality gradings shown in ELCID reflect information available up to December 2025. This provides an excellent opportunity to explore the most up-to-date quality picture ahead of the session.
What’s involved?
The session is 90 minutes long and includes a short, informal preparation activity using ELCID (approximately 30 minutes). The activity is exploratory and designed to support discussion – there are no right or wrong answers.
