The Spatial Hub, the one stop-shop for national mapping data for local government in Scotland, has started sharing our data publicly on ArcGIS Online, the largest geographic information system (GIS) platform run by Esri.

The Spatial Hub is now in its tenth year of bringing together and publishing local government’s geospatial data for everyone to find, access and use.

Built using open-source technology and standards, Spatial Hub has evolved organically to meet many different publisher and user requirements over the years.

Given that so many organisations use Esri as their chosen GIS software supplier, integrating our data more seamlessly with its platform was a natural choice.

Therefore, we have begun to publish most open (‘Open Government Licence’) Spatial Hub datasets in Esri’s free to use ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World - the foremost collection of authoritative GIS datasets.

This means that ArcGIS users across the world can simply add the data into their digital maps to visualise and analyse them.

We are also exploring how the integration with ArcGIS Online can be used to provide non-open datasets to the local government and private sector community for wider and more-efficient use.
