The Spatial Hub platform has been redesigned to build on its success of the past ten years by ensuring that local gov-related data is as easy as possible to find, view and use.
The Spatial Hub was developed in 2016 by the Improvement Service to host and publish Scottish spatial data. Initially it was a platform to which local authorities could provide their data for combining into national datasets. These national datasets are published in accordance with current data standards, to ensure that they can be easily found, accessed and used.
The platform has evolved organically to meet many other data sharing requirements, including publishing data from a wide range of non-local government organisations. At present, the Spatial Hub hosts over 80 datasets, provided by over 100 organisations. This presented the ideal timing to update the platform to ensure that it remains robust, resilient and fit for the future.
The overall look and feel of the platform, as well as individual pages, have been redesigned to make the user experience easier and more efficient. New administrative tools, such as automated e-mail alerts, status reports and monitoring, have also been developed that improve the data governance behind the datasets. These updates can also help more local authorities use the platform as an open data portal for their own local datasets.
We encourage everyone to visit the platform and to discover the wealth of critical information that is published through it.
