The Improvement Service is providing dedicated digital mapping and IT support to Clackmannanshire Council to help them complete their Corporate GIS implementation.

The Spatial Information Service Team is also providing guidance on digital data management and governance, technical support for service areas using IDOX Uniform and acting as a single point of contact for all issues relating to geographic data.

The initial 12-week agreement consisted of an audit of geographic data, a “baselining” exercise to ascertain the status of the stalled Cadcorp GIS implementation, implementation of an online mapping capability for citizens via the Councils website, and the development and rollout of an internal geographic information system to all staff within the organisation.

By providing this service, the IS was able to help Clackmannanshire Council avoid costly consultancy fees and make a saving based on a full-time equivalent post being filled. After the initial work was completed, the arrangement was extended for an additional 14 weeks to provide associated software support, including upgrading to the latest version of the software and provision of training for staff using the new online mapping capabilities.

This support is part of a wider digital and intelligence offering provided by the Improvement Service and aims to provide vital digital mapping and data support to local authorities as part of delivering efficiencies and service improvement within local government.
