Place Based Investment Programme brings benefits to councils and communities
A new report by the Improvement Service has found that the Place Based Investment Programme continues to bring benefits to councils and local communities.
The IS carried out an evaluation of the funding provided to local authorities across Scotland by the Scottish Government in 2023-24 as part of the programme. Over £21 million was invested in 211 project to improve local places. The programme is also used as a catalyst to secure additional funding and helped secure investments of £150 million from other sources.
The evaluation found that the funding:
- supported 80 local community organisations to plan and deliver their own projects.
- contributed to mitigating climate change by increasing energy efficiency and reducing the need to travel.
- addressed inequality by improving access to local community facilities and reducing health inequalities.
- contributed to improving local economies by providing and sustaining local jobs and increasing training opportunities.
The funding is welcomed by local authorities across Scotland as PBIP offers ‘local flexibility to meet local need’.
