Rajeev Singh and Fiona Gray receive the Digital Tech awardThe Improvement Service has won the Public Sector Innovation award at the ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards 2025.

The IS was recognised for the development of the parentsportal.scot mobile app by the Digital Public Services team together with technical partners TCS.

Launched in 2023, the app was designed to make it even easier for parents and carers to access parentsportal.scot features and communicate with their child’s school. The app is available to both Android and iOS users and has been downloaded 118,200 times.

Parentsportal.scot was developed to create a digital relationship between parents, pupils, and schools, replacing the traditional school bag run. A parent can sign in using a single sign-in approach (powered by the mygovscot myaccount service), enabling them to view information about their child’s education, pay for school meals, update their own data and, in time, process a school placing request.

Twenty councils have joined parentsportal.scot, with over 1,470 schools across Scotland now live. More than 253,000 parents are using the platform for over 361,000 linked children.

The ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards showcase excellence within the industry rewarding the innovation, expertise and ambition of businesses large and small. The Public Sector Innovation award aims to recognise a company that has worked in partnership with suppliers to create an outcome for public good.
