The IS and COSLA have worked together to develop the Scottish Local Government Assurance and Information Framework (SLGAIF).
The framework maps out the range of accountability, improvement and assurance arrangements that relate to local government in Scotland. It is designed to help both national and local governments, as well as wider partners and communities, better understand the arrangements that are in place across all service areas.
The framework demonstrates the significant transparency and scrutiny of local democracy and is intended to help build trust in the essential work councils do on behalf of our communities.
Councillor Shona Morrison, Chair of the Improvement Service and COSLA President, said:
“I welcome today’s publication of the Scottish Local Government Assurance and Improvement Framework, a collaboration between COSLA and the Improvement Service. The framework sets out the extensive landscape of governance, reporting, performance improvement and scrutiny that applies to Scottish local government. I hope this document provides confidence that local democracy is working on behalf of everyone in Scotland and is transparent evidence of continued close scrutiny from our communities up to our public bodies, all who have a role in the meaningful delivery of our services.“
