The work of the Improvement Service is wide-ranging and varied. We exist to support councils and their partners to improve the health, quality of life and opportunities of all people in Scotland through community leadership, strong local governance and the delivery of high quality, efficient local services.
Working for the IS means joining a group of professionals who are working together to strive for continuous improvement in the public sector and ultimately, better outcomes for Scotland’s communities.
Pay is only one of the benefits of working for the IS. Our terms and conditions are progressive and flexible, and employees are rewarded with a generous annual leave entitlement of forty-one days per year as well as a flexible working policy.
The IS is committed to promoting equality and diversity in all its activities to promote inclusive processes, practices and culture. We are a Disability Confidence Committed Employer and will interview anyone with a disability who meets the essential criteria.
We are fully committed to helping our people develop, broaden their skills and progress in their career. We do this through:
- relevant professional and practical training and we provide other opportunities for learning and development
- ongoing Performance Appraisal and Personal Development Planning (PAPDP) process.
The wellbeing of our employees is important to us. We strongly support a balanced working life and offer flexible working opportunities where appropriate. Our office is within the West Lothian Council Civic Centre in Livingston, with employees expected to attend the office at least once a month for team meetings or as otherwise required.
