I’m delighted to share that mygovscot myaccount has reached a major milestone, with 3 million users. This means over 60% of Scotland’s eligible population now has a mygovscot myaccount – a fantastic achievement and one worth celebrating.

Reaching this point hasn’t happened overnight. Over the past 12 years, significant work has gone into developing the platform, making it the trusted, go-to solution it is today for local government and the wider public sector. We’re hugely grateful to colleagues across local government and beyond for their support on this journey, as well as to our technical partners, TCS.

It’s particularly exciting to reflect that at the end of 2024 we were celebrating 2.5 million users – and now we’ve reached 3 million. That said, we’re not ones to stand still. We remain focused on continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering real value for our stakeholders.

Enhancements over the past year

Over the last 12 months, we’ve introduced a number of improvements to strengthen and enhance the platform. Here are just a few highlights:

Prompting users to check their details
Users are now periodically prompted to review and confirm their personal details, such as contact information and address, when logging in. This simple step helps ensure data remains accurate and aligns with modern security expectations.

Registration using the Yoti app
We’ve introduced the option to register using the Yoti app, offering a faster and more streamlined experience. Users can securely transfer their details during sign-up, reducing the need for manual entry.

Improved sign-in history visibility
Users can now view their recent login activity, including the services they’ve accessed. This provides greater transparency, helping users identify unfamiliar activity and strengthening confidence in the platform.

Showcasing impact

We’ve also recently developed a series of myaccount case studies. Working with Paul Livingstone, Digital Leader at Falkirk Council, we explored how myaccount has supported the collection of over £100 million in revenue, helping to fund vital council services.

A second case study highlights how Falkirk transformed its customer experience by bringing 170 services online. Both are well worth a read.

If you have a milestone or success story to share, please get in touch – we’d love to work with you to showcase it.

Supporting new national services

In April 2026, we launched visitorlevy.scot, a national digital service developed in partnership between the Improvement Service and local authorities. It supports accommodation providers in meeting their responsibilities where a visitor levy has been introduced, offering a consistent and secure way to register, submit returns and make payments.

The service is powered by mygovscot myaccount, reinforcing its role as a key enabler of digital public services.

Keeping stakeholders informed

Over the past year, we’ve also launched a myaccount newsletter series.

  • The first edition focused on security and how we protect users’ data
  • The second highlighted the myaccount toolkit and its flexibility it offers to service providers
  • The third covered recent developments and improvements

If you’d like to receive future editions, please get in touch.

Looking ahead

The growth of mygovscot myaccount continues to exceed expectations, with new integrations underway and exciting developments ahead. I don’t think it will be long before I’m writing another milestone blog celebrating 3.5 million users.
