Moving from Collective Leadership to Collective Action
As part of the calendar of events taking place across Scotland to mark 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, COSLA and the Improvement Service hosted an online event on 10 December 2021 to explore the progress from last year’s conference on collective leadership and how this can move towards collective action at both local and national levels. Senior leaders and decision-makers were asked to consider “what will you do?” to support these ambitions to be reflected in actions to help achieve the change necessary to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG) and gender inequality.

Our visual scribe, Linda Hunter, captured the day’s discussions in this image.
This event aimed to:
- Share and amplify key learning that has arisen throughout the Covid-19 pandemic on collective progress, opportunities and challenges experienced by organisations working to improve outcomes for women, children and young people affected by gender-based violence;
- Strengthen commitment amongst senior leaders and decision-makers to support the development and implementation of the next phase of Equally Safe: Scotland’s Strategy to Prevent and Eradicate Violence Against Women and Girls; and
- Identify and agree tangible actions that we can take individually and collectively to deliver a joined-up, cross-policy response to tackling gender-based violence, that ensures all women, children and young people in Scotland are equally safe.
