In December 2023, the oversight group endorsed the aims of phase 2 of the LGDP project. It was agreed that phase 2 would build on the learning and recommendations which emerged from phase 1 in relation to rationalisation of the landscape, better governance, improved data quality, greater co-ordination, and automation of data returns.
In January 2025, following the progress that had been made in the early phase of phase 2, the oversight group agreed to a revised set of priorities, which includes moving at pace to prototyping a technical solution and setting out proposals for a new governance framework for local government data returns.
