Thing to watch out for
  • The toolkit is intended to augment existing practices within councils, you do not need to use all tools within the pack.
  • A range of colleagues should be involved in the process to gather a variety of views, experiences and knowledge.
  • For step 3, you should be thinking out with the normal. You may have scenarios that go beyond rational thinking, this may take some time to get people thinking this way, this is where techniques such as story telling will help develop scenarios.
  • This toolkit should aid you as you move through to strategic planning, there should be alignment from each of the steps into the planning process.
  • Ensure there is appropriate communication throughout the steps for colleagues to understand and accept the process.
