Connecting, supporting and developing people across Scottish local government
Local Government Connect supports people working across Scottish local government to build relationships, access mentoring and take part in development opportunities. The network helps colleagues connect with others across the sector, learn from different experiences and develop confidence throughout their career journey.
Local Government Connect gives colleagues the opportunity to learn from others across Scottish local government, build confidence and develop wider professional networks. By connecting people across councils and partner organisations, the network supports shared learning, collaboration and career development across the sector.

- Peer networking and opportunities to build relationships across councils and partner organisations.
- Access to leadership stories, insights and practical learning from people working across the sector.
- A supportive space to share ideas, explore challenges and learn from the experience of others.
Mentoring is a key part of Local Government Connect. It provides a supportive space for colleagues to reflect on their goals, explore challenges and learn from the experience of others. Mentoring conversations can help participants build confidence, consider future career steps and gain insight from someone outside their immediate team or organisation.
Local Government Connect is for people working in local government and partner organisations who want to develop their skills, broaden their networks and learn from others. It can be particularly useful for people in the earlier stages of their career, those exploring future leadership roles, and colleagues who think they would benefit from mentoring or peer support.
You can get involved by joining the network as a participant, expressing interest in being matched with a mentor, or volunteering to support others as a mentor. You can also take part in development sessions and networking opportunities as they become available. For more information, or to discuss becoming a mentor or participant, contact Amanda Spark.
